Why buy Safe Tread Stair & Floor Products?

See each product overview for a lst of benefits.

What is the life expectancy of Safe Tread products?

Design life of 10+ years, subject to traffic analysis.

The life expectancy of any stair or flooring product will be dictated by the nature and volume of the traffic it receives.

Factors such as shoe type and material, weight of individual, non pedestrian traffic, and any contamination such as dirt or grit are all factors that will influence the natural wear and tear of the product.

Do you offer a product Guarantee?

Yes, Safe Tread anti-slip products come with a 10 Year Manufacturers Guarantee.

Should any manufacturing defects occur within 10 years of purchase, we’ll replace free of charge.

How is the slip resistance of Safe Tread products tested?

By the Pendulum Test method.

Where are Safe Tread products manufactured?

Our anti-slip stair and floor products are manufactured by us in Great Britain.

Where can I use Safe Tread Stair & Floor Products?

Safe Tread products are suitable for domestic, commercial and industrial environments - for interior and exterior use. Our products are quick and easy to install, and can be applied to nearly any substrate.

What are Standard Duty or Heavy Duty products?

Our standard duty products are suitable for most applications and give many years of service under normal conditions. However, if your requirement is in a very high foot fall area such as a train station or hospital, or maybe the area is likely to be contaminated (muddy or frosty conditions), or you just want the most hardwearing - then our heavy duty products are for you. Standard Duty & Heavy Duty comparison.

What is the hardness rating of anti-slip products?

Hardness scale, standard duty, heavy duty, fine grit comparison.

What Grit Grades are available?

Grit grades options:

What are Safe Tread Products made from?

Safe Tread Anti-Slip Products are manufactured from Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP), using isophthalic polyester or vinyl ester resins to ensure they are suitable for use in the harshest of environments, and incorporating quartz, aluminium oxide or silicon carbides for the anti-slip surface.

Are Safe Tread products weatherproof?

Very much so, Safe Tread products are designed and manufactured to withstand even the most extreme weather conditions.

How are Safe Tread products slip resistant?

All of our anti-slip stair, floor and grating products incorporate a gritted surface, ensuring outstanding slip resistance even in wet and oily conditions rated extremely low slip risk.

What does DDA compliant mean?

The DDA - Disability Discrimination Act, with particular reference to the visually impaired, indicates that all stairs accessed by members of the public should have a contrasting coloured nosing fitted to all step edges and in addition such stair nosing should provide a slip resistant surface, particularly when wet.

Safe Tread products comprehensively fulfil the requirements specified in the UK Building Regulations Act and the final stage of the Disability Discrimination Act to help create a safer environment.

Who do we manufacture stair and floor products for?

Our Safe Tread Factory produces anti-slip stair and floor products for industrial, commercial or home use. How do I install Safe Tread products?

Safe Tread products are so versatile they can be applied to nearly any existing substrate and are quick and easy to install. Well within the capabilities of most maintenance departments, installation is accomplished with adhesives and/or a selection of mechanical fixings. It is a finished product so the areas can be used immediately.

We've produced a selection of PDF guides for maintenance, cleaning & installation of Anti-Slip products, also covering tools, fixings and PPE equipment. See our Safe Tread Installation Guides.

Do I need adhesive?

Sikaflex is an adhesive sealant and can be used to seal around the edge and stop water lying between the stair or floor products and the substrate (water will not harm Safe Tread products but can affect wood or metal substrates causing rot or rust).

Using an adhesive sealant also offers a secondary fixing in the event that the mechanical fixing should fail. Furthermore, use of Sikaflex will also help eliminate the drumming noise that can be created when fitting onto an existing substrate.

How much adhesive sealant do I need for Safe Tread products?

Adhesive requirement - a general guide for Safe Tread stair and floor products -

1 x 300ml tube is generally sufficient for:

1 x 2400mm x 1200mm non-slip floor sheet,
3.5 linear metres of anti-slip stair tread cover,
5 linear metres of anti-slip stair nosing,
5 linear metres of non-slip step strips.

Sikaflex adhesive sealant can be purchased from Safe Tread. See Installation Guides.
